Old Buncombe County Genealogical Society – an invitation for your society to our July program. 

Explore the lives and challenges of the men and women who helped to create “Little Charleston” in the mountains with Alexia Jones Helsley, the historian for and narrator of the 2020 documentary film: “To Protect and Preserve.” 

Flat Rock is the largest historic district in North Carolina.

An historian, archivist, and author, Helsley is a Senior Instructor in History and a University Archivist at USC Aiken, receiving the SC Governor’s Archives Award.  She has written numerous books and articles on South Carolina and regional history. 

Helsley chairs the SC Old Exchange Commission, is a past president of the SC Historical Association, and has received numerous awards for her work on the study of the American Revolution in South Carolina.
