Cherokee Tales of Tears
The November 6, 2021 meeting guest speaker is Betty Jamerson Reed, author. She will be presenting on “Cherokee Tales of Tears.” November is Native American Heritage Month.
Betty Jamerson Reed, one of the original faculty at East Henderson High School, has spent her years of retirement writing poetry and researching the history of education in the Southern Appalachians. Her poems appear in various journals and anthologies. Her books: The Brevard Rosenwald School (2004) and School Segregation in Western North Carolina A History, 1860s-1970s (2011) were awarded certificates of merit by the American Association for State and Local History. Her latest book Soldiers in Petticoats (2019) provides information for her presentation “Cherokee Tales of Tears.“
